Last night, my sister called me at 9:58 pm and told me to put on ABC and watch the show that was coming on in two minutes. I did, and it blew me away. Diane Sawyer covered the last six months with Randy Pausch, a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who is dying from pancreatic cancer. Despite his circumstances, Randy is living life to the fullest and he gave what he called his farewell lecture to his students, the video of which has now become internationally known. His life and the way that he and his wife have lived, especially these last six months, are an inspiration to all. Thanks to my sister for pointing this man and his family out to me. I hope that everyone will view the video and also think about buying his book, "The Last Lecture."
Last night, Liam slept from around 11:30 until 5:40. Catherine couldn't believe it, but he is about to turn six weeks old and that often seems to be a turning point for longer periods of sleep. My own children began sleeping longer during the night at this stage.
Liam will be descended upon this evening by a group of ladies from church. I lead a group for women who are married to non-Christians and it is so uplifting to have the commonality we share because we understand one another's anguish over our spouse's non-relationship with the Lord, but it has also been so great for me to lead. I have learned so much about myself and even more about God and His will for all of us. So, Liam will be oohed and ahhed over and passed around like a bottle of whiskey. Well, perhaps not a bottle of whiskey in this crowd, although, hey, I know that we all weren't angels growing up (vbg) and I know that most of the women in the group can attest to that! After our meeting, Catherine needs to study for her test tomorrow for this job she thinks she has. So Grammy will be watching Liam while trying to pack for NY, organize my bedroom and bathroom and vacuum some.
I am working today (preparing this blog while on my lunch hour) and things are fairly quiet, which is unusual. Usually, Arnie and I are (between hard work, the phones ringing, people coming in, etc.) singing show tunes together, ballads, or commercial jingles. Today he came into my office as I was putting on some hand lotion (they are so dry from this weather!), and I said to him as I rubbed my hands together, "This'll make it easier to wring your neck later." He nodded, tossed a file on my desk and went back into his office. I love working here.
