As I prepare to leave for NY with my husband for the long weekend, all kinds of thoughts are running through my head, most of which are focused on romance. Living in a 3 generational household rarely affords any time for such a thing. Because of this, I refer to our home nestled on 4 acres in the hills of the Finger Lakes region as our "love nest." And it doesn't matter how long you've been married, if it's 27 weeks, 27 months or 27 years (like us), it's important to keep romance alive and well in a relationship. So here are some printable tips for the weekend:
Make dinner together and, while standing together at the counter, offer tidbits of food to your love by feeding it to him/her.
As the sun begins to set, light candles all over the house. Even if you are just watching TV together, the ambience of this low light is wonderful. And if they have fragrance, it's just icing on the cake and serves as a prelude for romance.
Sit together on the couch, arms touching, or have your legs draped over your mate. Or lie together on the couch, talking, laughing and just feeling the warmth of each other.
If it's a cooler weekend and you have a fireplace or woodstove, build that fire. Put a blanket on the floor in front of it, pour a glass of wine, and lay there, talking, laughing and kissing, kissing, kissing!
In the same vein, build a fire outdoors together in your firepit (most people have these nowadays and most cities allow it). Wrap up in a blanket and sit together enjoying the warmth of the fire and the way the glow lights up your mate's face.
Regular touching when passing each other, even if you are on your way to the store, or on your way out to the tool shed, sends those sparks of electricity through the body.
Look at each other when you talk. Gazing into someone's eyes can be extremely overwhelming in a very good way.
Laugh together a lot.
Dance together in the dark, with those candles lit. You don't need to have music playing but if you do, keep it romantic.
Spoon together in bed. I love feeling my husband wrapped around the back of me, face nuzzled in my neck, arm slung over my waist. It is a wonderfully secure feeling.
Have a wonderful weekend!
